![]() Last week we had the opportunity to enjoy a local space near Edgemont, Nose Hill Park. As a grade two group we had the pleasure of walking through the park with a City of Calgary Nature Interpreter who shared with us many facts about the park. We learned about where we can find natural sunscreen, which plant we can chew on for pain relief, and the names of some of the animals that live in and around the park year round. ![]() We took the opportunity to sit quietly and observe through our senses what we could hear, see, smell, and touch. We also learned how to frame pictures and captured what we saw with cameras. These pictures are ready to use for research, art, math, and learning in our classroom. Our hope is to go to Nose Hill Park at least once in every season, so look for more information about our next visit in the winter and spring. ![]() Thank you to the parents and staff who came with us to support our incredible visit. We could not experience this important neighbourhood resource without you. As well, thank you to the City of Calgary park intepreter Leah, as she surprised us with information, pictures, and artifacts that made our journey through the park much richer. --- Students and Adults of Room 5, Grade 2 Welcome to grade two! I am excited to be starting another year with a new group of students. We have adjusted to our new classroom and have learned a great deal about each other in the first month. We have taken the time to talk to each other about our favourite parts of school, what we are looking forward to this year, and how we will support each other as learners in the classroom. I look forward to working with your children as we learn about different ideas set out by Alberta Learning, our school's guiding question "How Are We Connected?", and our grade two question, "How Can Something So Small, Make Such A Big Difference?" These ideas and questions will guide us through a year of inquiry based learning as we come to understand the world around us, ask questions in order to observe and discuss connections, and learn about how we as small people can affect positive change. I look forward to taking this learning journey with students, teachers, Education Assistants, families, grandparents, and parents! |
