![]() This week we began making boats in class. Our goals included taking the knowledge we have learned about objects that float and sink to see if each student could create a boat that could float then carry a load. ![]() We each received the same supplies to make our boat: a sheet of paper, tin foil, a plastic cup, and a ball of plasticine. We planned our boats through drawings and writing. With the additional help of glue and tape the following day we made our boats using our plans and supplies. Then our classroom community spent time each day floating individual boats in water, and adding tiles in groups of 5 and 10 (to practice our skip counting), and assess the size of the load (mass or weight) each boat could carry.
1.) My boat carried _____ tiles.
2.) I think my boat worked because... 3.) I think I could make a better boat by... In answering such questions, we will be ready to make another boat, and the goal with our second boat will be how far we can make our boat travel in water.
